A DOWNTOWN STROLL ~

SAN ANTONIO COUPLES PHOTOSHOOT

This last fall season was the busiest time I have ever had. I took a huge amount of shoots, of all different kinds, and had a very busy end of 2021. I was exhausted with the amount of shoots I needed to do before Christmas, and then came so much editing that I had to spend 8 hours a day for weeks trying to make sure everyone got their pictures on time. It was exhausting, and I very much looked forward to getting away for a while and being able to enjoy a vacation. So I took a vacation after Christmas and took two weeks to go to Spain! It was amazing. I was able to recharge my batteries for 2022 and really think and refocus on what I wanted to achieve for the year.

One of the questions that I asked myself was, what type of photography did I want to try and emphasize this year? Last year I focused a lot on families, and it’s definitely some of my favorites, but I had started to enjoy couples and engagement photoshoots very much towards the end. In many ways, one of the things that I love so much about it was that it allowed me to be more creative artistically with my camera and editing. I wanted to focus on capturing the natural emotions of a couple as they strolled through the park, or kissed while moving through the streets. Movement and flow were something I wanted to be able to show more of.

Coming back from Spain I had been thinking about using downtown San Antonio to capture a couple naturally enjoying themselves on a beautiful day. My vision was one of movement and also making it look nostalgic. I wanted everyone to be able to look at the photos and not really think so much about the posing, but rather just how everything in the picture captured the flow and magic of a couple being naturally in love. For this session, I was lucky to be able to have Brittany and Travis.

I took a couple of days to look downtown and try to see which areas I would have them stroll by to capture these moments. As luck would have it, the day of their couples photoshoot session came and we were not able to use some of the locations because of the lighting and also because it was a Saturday! which meant that many people were out and about. Instead, we started chasing the light through different places downtown and what came out was magical!

Brittany and Travis were so natural in front of the camera that it felt that they didn’t notice the camera being there! We walked through many places of downtown and I gave them little direction to be able to capture their love. This couple was recently married, and were very much looking forward to going on their honeymoon. Both of them work in the healthcare industry and have very busy schedules, so I wanted to make sure that I captured just how much they loved each other.

None of this disappointed, and it showed on the camera. I felt lucky to have been able to do a shoot for this recently married couple, and capture them being so natural and in love with each other. We didn’t get to go to some of the spots that I had planned to go earlier in the week, but it ultimately didn’t matter. When you have such a beautiful couple that are in love, it is certain that you will capture beautiful moments anywhere.

Downtown was full of places with gorgeous light, and scenery that highlights a couple so well. It was a great place for alleyways and rooftops where two people could enjoy being with each other and just happen to have a camera taking pictures of them! One of the greatest things about downtown is that it allowed me to find places on the spot and be able to capture the love between Brittany and Travis. We were able to talk before their couples photoshoot about the vision I had for it, and they agreed to let me capture this beautiful moment for them both.
