Retro Skate Photo Session in Downtown san antonio, tx
One thing I have started to love doing is coming up with creative concepts for photo sessions! In this session, I decided I wanted a nostalgic, retro look, using skates and 70’s clothing. The photoshoot took place in downtown San Antonio, about an hour before sunset.
I have started incorporating these sessions because they are so much fun and they also help me grow as a photographer, as I get to try new things! I am going to go through the steps I use to create a concept photo shoot..
First, I decide upon a message or story that I want to convey through my images. Once I come up with the idea, I start brainstorming ways to make the story come together. So, for this photo session, we thought that adding skates, flare jeans, bubble gum and disco balls all added to the vibe!
After brainstorming, I research and gather images that inspire me. I look for themes, colors, and style that I feel align with my concept. I don’t limit myself to just photography; I also browse other art forms, such as painting, sculpture, and music, for ideas that I can translate into my photography.
Finally, I create a mood board. Once I have gathered all of my inspiration, I organize my ideas all in one place. I collect images, colors, textures and visual elements that represent the look I am going for.
After all the preparation I make a detailed shot list of all the things I would like to capture in the photo session, but I always stay flexible and open to improvisation.
The last thing I do is edit my photo session. I use both Lightroom and Photoshop, and I love to use a preset that has a nostalgic film vibe!
I hope this information helps you in planning and executing your next concept photo shoot!
